Bed Rest

Hi Everyone,

I haven't updated for the last few days because there really isn't anything to tell which is a good thing. I have just been laying low on bed rest. Bed rest is something I thought would be relaxing but I can definitely report it is not. You get so uncomfortable and I can only lay on my back which gets to be a pain. Although I can't complain because I completely understand why the bed rest is needed. Anything I have to do to keep Andrew in there I will gladly do. Luckily I had friends and family that came to visit to keep me company. Of course my poor husband is here 24/7 to also keep me company but it is nice for him to have other people here to take care of me to get a break. He has been a saint. This is definitely a team thing we have to do. I don't know who has the shorter end of the stick.

Today was actually an exciting day. I got to leave the hotel to go to the hospital for my first post-op doctor appointment. I'm happy to report everything looks really good. Andrew's back is healing nicely, he is kicking his legs around and still has no fluid on his brain. Seeing him look so good makes everything so worth it.

I hope all the mothers out there had a great Mother's Day!

  1. hi kellly,
i am so glad to have found your blog. we are actually heading to CHOP next week for consultation about the prenatal surgery. i am almost 21 weeks with a little boy diagnosed with L4-L5 spina bifida. thanks for sharing so much about the surgery. we are scared to death, but like you, think that the prenatal repair offers some good possible outcomes. i am wondering if you plan to stay in philly until you deliver or if you will be able to go back to your home. we will be traveling from NC and could potentially deliver at Duke or UNC, but i am unsure if we have the surgery at CHOP if we would be advised to leave.

  2. Hi Sarah,

I'm so glad you found me! One of the of stipulations for having the surgery at CHOP is you have to stay in the area. I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have. I'm not sure what days you are going to be at CHOP but I have another doc appt on Tuesday at 11:30. There is just one waiting room for the SB prenatal wing so I will see you if you are there during that time.

  4. thanks kelly,
we are not going up until wed evening for appt. thursday and friday, so we most likely will not see you. if we decide to do the surgery there, i think that we would be in the area for some of the same time as you. best of luck with your appointment and staying sane on bedrest.
